NetSuite reports with API

We want to allow an external application to use API to fetch invoice data, however, since some of the invoices may contain sensitive data, the API should return only invoices booked to selected GL accounts. Can you suggest any approach for filtering invoice data on NetSuite side? Filtering using a query within the API request won't be suitable in this case.
