Customize Sales Order/Invoice to Show Discount Total

I have a unique situation. We have a 50% referral discount that can be applied to the first 10k of purchases. I would like the sales order/invoice to not only show the discount applied to this order, but the cumulative discount so that the customer is aware of the remaining discount that can be used on future purchases.

How can I get this total onto the invoice? If that is not possible, I would love recommendations on the best way to build a saved search for internal tracking.
