A field marked "Record is Parent" must have full access for all users.

When I try to set an existing custom body field of type list/record—>custom record to Record Is Parent checked and try to save, I get an alert that says the following and cannot save:

"A field marked "Record is Parent" must have full access for all users."

How do I get to set "Record is Parent" on a custom field without getting this alert?
