How can I earmark a certain amount of inventory for a customer?

I have one SKU in one Bin that is used by several customers. How can I earmark a certain amount of inventory for a customer? I'd like to keep the items together in the same bin.

i.e. I have 1000 items that I want to reserve for an upcoming project, and I don't want other orders consuming this inventory.
