NetSuite Admin Tip | Update Field Type for Existing Custom Field
A user identifies the need to improve data accuracy in a business form or record. For example, in an invoice record the custom field was originally set to Free-Form Text, which allowed inconsistent or incorrect entries. To enhance data consistency and ensure only numerical values are entered, the user updates the Field Type to Decimal Number. However, when updating the field via the Field setup all existing data on that field will be lost.
In order to prevent this, a workaround you may do is to use CSV Import. You can follow steps below:
