New To NetSuite | Custom Field Types: Date/Time vs. Time of Day
NetSuite provides both Time of Day and Date/Time custom field types to record time-related information. While they may seem alike, each is designed for a specific use case—Date/Time captures both the calendar date and the exact time, whereas Time of Day is intended for storing only the time, independent of any date.
Example Use Cases for Date/Time Fields:
- System logs or timestamps
- Meeting or appointment times
- Time-sensitive approvals or alerts
- Service level agreement (SLA) tracking
Example Use Cases for Time of Day fields:
- Employee Shift Start/End Time
- Store Opening or Closing Time
- Cutoff Time for Daily Orders
