New To NetSuite | Custom Field Types: Currency vs. Decimal Number
In NetSuite, Decimal Number fields store precise numeric values like measurements or rates without any currency formatting. Currency fields, on the other hand, are specifically for monetary value. They support exchange rates and follow currency-specific formatting. Use Decimal Number for non-financial data requiring precision, and Currency when dealing with actual amounts of money.
Example Use Cases for Currency Fields:
- Product Price
- Cost or Expense Tracking
- Commission Payouts
Example Use Cases for Decimal Number Fields:
- Dimensions/Measurements
- Scoring/Rating systems
- Averages
