Credit memo reserve account

I am looking for the best practice when it comes to creating and working with a credit memo reserve account. We currently have a credit memo reserve account that is an accounts receivable account type. However, this causes issues when we run an AR aging. What account type is best and how are others handling the mechanics of having a credit memo reserve in a different group.

We have a similar situation with the accounts payable and accrual accounts setup as an accounts payable type account.
