Do Assembly Matrix items use different option lists?

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up new matrix assembly items using the assistant, but the box to select an existing list is blank.
I already have many inventory matrix items set up using various lists for colour, measurements and more.

Do I need to set up new lists specific to assembly items? And how are they made differently or how do I specify them as being for assembly items?
I don't understand why this box isn't offering me any options.

The list setup doesn't offer any selection for the type of item it's for, just that if it's intended to be a matrix option or not.
