CHANGING SUBSIDIARIES TO LOCATIONS

When we originally set up our company in NetSuite, we made our 3 locations subsidiaries and because of issues we've encountered, we would like to switch them to locations. Everything I read makes it sound pretty complicated but does anyone know the steps to change our profit centers to locations, transfer inventory while making sure our financial data isn't compromised? I've been trying in Sandbox and reading any article I can find but haven't really found anything that gives you a step by step.
