Update custom field on Matrix Item creation

I'm trying to update a custom field on both Matrix Parent and child items while creating a Matrix Item. I deployed a UE script to accomplish this, but it appears that the script is not being triggered.

Are there any limitations on triggering scripts for Matrix item parent or child items? I would appreciate any insights on this.
