Netsuite Admin Tip | A Business Needs a Status Tracker: How to Create a Controlled Status Field
When a business process has several stages, it can be difficult to track progress using free-form text or manual notes. A controlled status field can help users select from approved values and keep reporting consistent.
This is useful for processes such as onboarding, reviews, approvals, requests, or internal tracking.
Scenario
A team needs to track the status of a business process in NetSuite.
Examples may include:
- customer onboarding
- vendor review
- internal request approval
- document review
- project intake
- compliance tracking
Without a controlled status field, users may enter different values for the same stage.
Example:
- In Progress
- In-Progress
- Working
- Ongoing
This can make reporting and filtering harder.
