This notice is intended for all customers who utilize Matrix Items feature.
You are receiving this notification because your NetSuite account uses Matrix Items. This notice is relevant to integrations that use SuiteScript, CSV Import, REST, or related channels and aligns backend processing with existing NetSuite UI restrictions and supported Matrix Item workflows. Only customers whose integrations rely on the backend behaviors described below are expected to be affected.
What Is Changing?
Effective with the NetSuite 2026.2 monthly release targeted for September 15, 2026, a fix is planned to apply additional validation to backend requests involving Matrix Items:
- When an integration sets matrix option values while creating a matrix child, it must use the matrixoption-prefixed field ID. Raw, unprefixed field IDs will be ignored. No error will be returned.
- After a Custom Item Field is created, backend requests will not be allowed to change protected properties, including whether the field is used as a matrix option, its field type, or its selected record type. An attempt to change one of these properties will return an error.
The new validation applies to backend requests submitted after the fix is deployed, including requests involving existing records. It will not automatically change or repair existing inconsistent records.
Recommended Actions
If you have integrations that create or update matrix child items:
- Confirm that they use the matrixoption-prefixed field ID when setting matrix option values.
- Confirm that they do not attempt to change protected properties of an existing Custom Item Field.
You do not need to proactively identify, recreate, or repair existing Matrix Items. If you experience an issue involving an existing Matrix Item after the new validation takes effect, contact NetSuite Customer Support for assistance.
