Custom Item Thumbnail Field Possible?

I'd like to create a custom item field (image) that simply sources directly 'storedisplaythumbnail' and display this on the Custom tab so the thumbnail is exposed on matrix subitem records.  Similarly for 'storedisplayname'.

I'm not seeing either of these fields as sourcing options for a new custom item field.  Anyone have any workarounds on how to do this?
