Customer Record not allowing Form Change

I have a custom Customer Form that I created that has several new custom fields on it.  When I open a customer record that was created with the Standard Customer Form then change the form to the new Custom Form and click save, it does not save to the new form.  I really need this to save with the new form or it will confuse people when viewing.

Note:  I have set the Standard Customer Form as inactive so no one else creates a record using it.
