Custom iOS App

Does anyone have an example or experience they would like to share of developing a custom iOS App that connects to NS in Xcode 4 or newer? 

I'm not sure where to start to make the connection to the NS Web Services, authenticate  and if SOAP is the best/only option for communication.

Is someone could share the setup, connection, etc. for a simple app that may connect to NS and display the results of a saved search in an iOS app then I think i could do the rest of the development for my app.
