Setting a Returns Authorisation to Cancelled

Is there a way to do this? I know the Status field is read-only and thus cannot be set by a script - but is there any other way?

We have over 2,000 RA's 'pending receipt' and we need a way to cancel these after a set period has expired (60 days)

I have the workflow working perfectly, but cannot find any way (either directly with an action, or via an Action Script) to cancel these RAs

This seems like such a simple process.
