Total Quantity In An Order

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a field that shows the total quantity  of pairs of sandals (calculated from the sum of individual items on the order) ordered in two places:

[LIST]
[*]Sales Order Input Form/Page
[*]Sales Order PDF that goes to Customer
[*]Picking Ticket & Packing Slip PDF
[/LIST]

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
