Edit Hidden Field in using webservices

Hi,
I have a Custom List/Record type field whose display type is hidden.

When I try to edit any record having this field it returns an error that you are not allowed to edit this field. The same call run fine if I change the display type of this field to Normal.

Is it a know bug? Is there a way to edit a hidden field  using Webservices.
