Hi everyone, we're looking at implementing a barcode scanning system for our warehouse staff, but before we do I'd like to get a handle on how it will actually work.

If memory serves, barcode scanners act exactly like glorified keyboards.  They simply take a number from a barcode and send it as text input to wherever the cursor is.  If this is the case, how exactly do you do fulfillments with a scanner?  Is there some additional script used to detect input from the scanner and move the cursor between fields?  How are multiple items handled?

Basically, could someone please post an overview of the order fulfillment process using a barcode scanner?  It'd be very much appreciated!
