Do barcode scanners interact with inventory count?

Hi Everyone, When we receive an item in our warehouse and we are looking for the ability to scan the barcode and automatically add the scanned items to inventory. Is this possible with any scanning system or we have to purchase something else?

I would appreciate any help.
