Display Quantity on Order from Sales Order

Would any one have ideas on how we can display the Quantity on Order from the Sales Order detail?

What happens is that we try to pre-sell stock before it arrives. We may be getting 250 of item x on October 1. We try our best to sell all 250 before the container arrives.

We can see the number back ordered but we need to see the delta of quantity on order (PO) less quantity back ordered.

I am guessing this is a client side suite script waiting to happen.
