Newbie question: tax on purchase orders

Hello,

I am wondering how to deal with tax on purchase orders.  I enter a PO for say $800 for an employee laptop.  When I receive it, I have an invoice with tax, and shipping and handling.  The bill then is for say $900.  How do I include that other $100 of tax and shipping & handling on the bill?  Do I need to create items for them?
