How Do I Associate Journal Entry with and Item?

I need to make a Journal Entry which will:
[LIST]
[*]Post to an Income Account (no problem)
[*]Be associated with a specific Item so that the JE shows up on a Sales by Item Report[/LIST]How do I do this?

There is NO Item field on the Journal body, nor in the Journal Line.

I could add a custom field that sources the Item Record, but would this meet my requirements (above)?
