Best Practice to Convert a Customer Deposit to a Credit Memo

Can someone please tell me if and how you have been able to convert a Customer Deposit that is unapplied to a Credit Memo that hits A/R? I tried a Journal to A/R and the Liability Account and added the Customer Name to both lines. While this did decrease the Overall Customer Balance, it did not decrease the Deposit Balance within the Customer's record.

Any ideas/suggestions/information on this would be greatly appreciated.
