Where are translated text labels stored?

I'm working on customizing some list item templates and there are a lot of these type of tags.

<%=getTranslatedText('site','button','theme_buy')%>

Where is the text stored? We don't have multilanguage turned on.  I can always change these tags manually but that would defeat the purpose of having them in the first place.

I need to change the text from Buy to Donate.
