Can you hide the Left Navigation ONLY for the Item Description Page?

The item description uses a Item/Category Template which only controls the center contents not the Top or Left contents of the Theme. There are no Tag substitutions on the Item/Category Template either.

What I want to do is modify the Left Navigation (for example hide it completely) but at the item description level, not at the category level.

Is this possible?
