Cannot install new Reference Checkout with Beta already installed

I have a site that is using the reference checkout beta (bundle ID 21011 v 1.1). When I attempt to install the new Reference Cart (v 2.0), I get an error:

"You cannot install this bundle as it is a copy of bundle 21011 that you previously installed"

That doesn't make any sense. I obviously need to keep the v1.1 running while I modify and customize v2 before deploying and then uninstalling v1.1.

Is this error correct or is there something else happening that is causing this? And if correct, why can I not install both versions separately?
