Custom item field

I need to get the country of origin in all inventory records but you cannot import data into the Manufacturer Country field that Netsuite provides - and I'm not about to edit 3000 records one at a time either!

Instead, I have created a country of origin custom field and have set it to source the country field from the preferred vendor record assigned to each inventory item.  It is set to TYPE-Free Form Text.

After saving the custom field record, it pulls no data at all.  I am wondering if anyone can suggest any fix for this?
