Is there a way to show the serial number on the invoice transaction screen?

The serial number of an item can be viewed on the invoice transaction screen when you click the shipping box. Is there a way to show the serial number elsewhere on the screen without the extra step of opening the inventory detail pop-up? I am trying to add a custom body field but I am unable to find the source for this information in the available options.
