Get item instock count for web site with multiple locations

I'm really struggling with a way to create messaging on the website that determines when an item is in stock and we have multiple web warehouse locations. Is there a way to create a custom item field that would calculate the different quantity fields like available, on hand, back ordered , on order and save them when there are multiple warehouse locations?

For example, an item is in two web warehouse locations, and I want to simply know

Location A has 0 in-stock and 3 Backordered

Location B has 0 in-stock and 0 Backordered, and 5 on Order

So totals that I want to calculate and create messaging around are
