Is there a way to attach Contact Records to a Custom Record?

We have several custom "stand alone" records and we would like to the same ability to have multiple contacts with the same fields as we do on native records but I cannot figure out how to do that.

The closest I have found in Suiteanswers is a multi-select custom field of contact list records, which is not what we need.

Any help would be most appreciated.
