Simple Report: Inventory Items Shipped by Month

It seems to me that this should be a pretty standard report: how many of each *inventory* item did I ship each month last year. 

I can't use "sales by item summary", because that only shows *kits*, not the member items.

I tried a report on "quantity fulfilled", but that appears not to be able to have columns by month.

It seems like a basic report for inventory planning purposes.  Any ideas?
