Initial load of web site categories to items

Hi,

Looking to load website categories to our items. Categories are created and we only have 12 of them. Is there an easy way to do this or do we have to bring up each item individually? I was hoping I could edit the field within a saved search but either I am doing it wrong or the field isn't available for editing. Any ideas?
