Adding internal ID of the fulfillment to packing slip PDF

I'm trying to add the internal ID of the fulfillment to the packing slip PDF that prints out from the fulfillment. I added {internal ID} as a custom element to the form and it didn't work. I tried making a custom field called "Internal ID for forms" and make it = {internal ID} and that also failed.
