Anyone know how to source a custom item field onto Printed BOM form a WO

I am using an advanced HTML PDF form and cannot seem to get the code correct. It is NOT showing in the pick list in the ADV PDF template. I have tried {item.custitem1} and {record.item.custitem1} Any other thoughts.
