Automatically adding Surcharges for Items by Class/Group

We need to automate the calculation of Surcharges (Markup Item) for all Items containing Metal, Is there a way to setup a Markup Item (or anything else) that will automatically charge the surcharge for a group of Items?

e.g. All of our Bicycles would be charged a Metal Surcharge (Markup).

Note: We have thousands of Items, so setting up a separate Markup Item for each Item is not sustainable.
