New Custom Entity field not displaying value on Customer form

Have created a new custom entity field and added to Customer Form that should display same info as the Balance field in the Financial subtab for a customer. Displays in the correct place (Primary Information) but no value is displayed. Customer has a balance of $11.90. Tried other customers with larger balances. No go. I’ve tried modifying all settings, no luck getting the balance to display. Ideas on what I'm missing?

Created field as follows:

1.     Label: Cust Balance

2.     TYPE: Currency

3.     SHOW IN LIST: Unchecked.

4.     STORE VALUE: Unchecked.

5.     INACTIVE: Unchecked.

6.     Applies To: Checked CUSTOMER.

7.     Insert Before: -UNCHANGED-

8.     SUBTAB: Main

9.     DISPLAY TYPE:
