Can you deactivate a tax nexus?

When NetSuite was implemented, a number of tax nexuses were created, which we realised in hindsight we do not need. We have established that we cannot delete the unwanted nexuses as there are transactions associated with them, but is there a way to deactivate them to prevent more transactions being linked going forward?
