SuiteScript: File attachments and the File Cabinet

Is there a document that describes how to attach files to a record, manipulate files attached to records, and search for files in the file cabinet ?

As near as I can tell, one can attach a file to a record, but there is no way (programmatically) to tell whether a record has a file attachment or to access any file attachments that may exist.
