How to compute for age?

I'm thinking of inserting a field to compute for age.

For example, I've already captured the date of birth of an entity via custom field type:date. Do I simply create a new custom field type:decimal and reference the difference between today's date and the dob?

If it's a formula, what kind of formula do I use? Thanks!
