No way to attach a file to a transaction directly from a local, network, or cloud drive

My user base is very used to attaching files to transactions such as vendor bills or purchase orders. In looking through the documentation and suite answers, everyone is referring to an intermediate steps of saving to the file cabinet and then to a transaction from the file cabinet.

Is this really the only way as attaching files from local drives, etc has been mainstream functionality in commercial applications for a very long time?
