How to make an opportunity line field mandatory

HI all,


Does anyone know how to make an Opportunity line field mandatory (or non mandatory in my case). Opportunity workflows don't allow line fields to be selected for some reason. I can't change it on the field record because I need to change it with conditions. I have tried nlapiSetLineItemMandatory but am obviously getting it wrong because that doesn't work either.

Any ideas?
