Change in value in a Custom Date Field is not saved and shows as blank

I added custom body field called Expiration date which I added to an RMA record.

I have a workflow that sets the value to today + 60 when the RMA is created. The problem is that when I change the date and save it Expiration date is saved with an empty value.

How can the initial value be today + 60 but still have the ability to edit the value ?

RECORD TYPE = Transaction

SUB TYPES  = Return Authorization

ON CREATE = Checked

TRIGGER TYPE = Before Record Load

Value = sixty days from now
