How to disallow purchase of parent matrix item in SCA?

Hello,

I'm configuring matrix options for an SCA site but I don't want the parent matrix item to be purchasable and I want to force the shopper to select an option. Currently the add to cart button is showing for the parent as well as the child. I'm using non-inventory items if this helps
