Is there a way to add Quick Search Portlet into an existing form, eg employee entry?

The following online help says "You can add a Quick Search portlet on most pages. In this portlet, you can search for data that matches your entered keywords for the selected field."

However I can only seem to add this portlet on to the dashboard. Is there a way to add this portlet into an existing form, eg employee entry?
