Is it possible to have a consumption unit of measure that has a different Base Unit?
For example when steel coil is purchased it is by weight, and a master coil may be 48 inches wide. When it is slit each sub-coil is also measured by weight but it has a smaller specific width, say 6 inches.
When the sub-coil gets used in production the sub-assembly (ie: say 2ft by 6 inch piece) is consumed by length. essentially it is consumed as square feet. But the BOM would show 2 ft as the coil width is fixed.
In order to drive MRP backwards to determine weight of raw material to buy we need to convert feet to weight. But there are a lot of variables, like guage, material, painted vs unpainted.
