Is Inline Editing allowed for Multiple Select type fields?

I have a custom field that I am pulling in a search. Once I open the search it will not let me inline edit from there. I have a different custom field on that same search that I am able to inline edit. Why are they different and is there a setting I need to switch to get the one field able to inline edit?
