How to set Saved Search to SEND EMAIL ALERTS WHEN RECORDS ARE CREATED & Not when updated?

Hello!

What is the best way to send saved search emails when records are created and NOT when they are updated?

We have a saved search that is setup to email/alert a user when a Sales Order is created for a particular item.. the issue is the user receives the emails when that record is updated.

I went down the avenue of looking to create a workflow but I could not work out the criteria I would need to set. So either way will be fine but I am just not sure what is best. Thanks
