custom item field - to pull latest price from purchase order

Hi

We wanted a custom field to store the latest item's rate from purchase order regardless of status. This custom field should be in the item record . once its on the item record, I would like to pull this into the BOM revision form. the goal is to have this custom field in the BOM revision form. Please advise.
